Stimulate joy, knowledge, and respect for local cultures
The staff of the Bystrinsky Nature Park cooperate with and help students from higher education institutions from the Kamchatka Region, who go through a practicum on the park’s territory.  In 2008, the park hosted practical studies by students from Nottingham University in Great Britain, and in 2006-2007, students from Perm University studied the culture and traditions of aboriginal populations living in the Bystrinsky Park.  The nature park creates informational brochures about their routes and attractions in the park, and the park office always gives information about the local aboriginal settlements and about local tourism products.

Quality and safety throughout the whole tour
Of course the park has experience in providing services to develop nature tourism.  Prior to the beginning of a trip, in the park office, the visitors are acquainted with the route, possible hazards, and rules for behavior in the park, wilderness ethics, and are offered the opportunity to file a trip plan with the federal rescue service for the time of their visit to the park.  As they pass the park ranger stations, their progress on the route is reported to the main park office.  The park is continuing to improve infrastructure and trails, and several times a year they verify the conditions of trails and facilities.  Well-used trails are maintained, information is posted about trail conditions.  Local volunteers help the park with maintenance and information.  For example, the ecological club of young people sponsored by WWF Russia, “Green tracks” annually helps inside the park territory cleaning trails and setting up signs.

Stimulate joy, knowledge, and respect for local cultures
During summer 2007 park employees conducted an extensive expedition through the rarely visited southeastern parts of the park and documented on video and in photographs information about possible future itineraries for hikers in this area.
Prior to receiving a visitor’s and expedition permit, visitors are given the necessary maps and park boundaries.

Quality and safety throughout the whole tour
Two inspectors from the nature park formerly worked in the federal rescue service and have many years of experience in wilderness safety and rescue.  They are actively give out information to visitors about how to have a safe trip.
Recommendations for a safe trip and rules for visiting the park are posted on the park’s web site www.wildkamchatka.ru

Kronotsky Biosphere Federal Preserve and Yuzhno-Kamchatsky Federal Sanctuary
48 Ryabikova St., Yelizovo, Kamchatka Region 684000, telephone/fax: 8 (415 31) 7-39-05, email: zapoved@mail.kamchatka.ruwww.kronotskiy.ru

Respect local traditions-decrease negative impact on nature and culture
The preserve regulations prohibit any kind of tourism that may cause harm the area’s environment and animals.   Therefore tourism is restricted to educationally-based or scientifically-based tours, for example students’ practicum and a variety of volunteer programs.

Supports the local economy
Annually, the preserve and sanctuary are visited by about 5000 people who bring to the regional budget about 70,000,000 rubles.

Make the work of the protected area environmentally sustainable
All garbage is carried out of the territory.
For example on the one-day helicopter tour to the Valley of Geysers, the entire route of the hiking tour takes place on a board walk in order to avoid trampling the plants and fragile soil.  During bear mating season and bird nesting season, the preserve doesn’t allow tourists to visit the Valley of Geysers where these animals congregate.
